Childbirth is a significant event. A postpartum doula offers compassionate care and expert guidance as you navigate the transition to your new or growing family

A doula is a trusted guide during the postpartum period, providing invaluable hands-on support to families during this transformative time. I assist families in identifying long-term solutions, recognizing that my role as a doula is temporary. Postpartum doula services include addressing various challenges, such as recovery and emotional support for the birthing parent, infant feeding and lactation assistance, newborn care, and education

how it works

Ways I support your transition home

It can be confusing what a Postpartum Doula provides. Here are some ways I can help:

  • Meal prep: I’ll prepare nourishing meals for the mother and family.
  • Light housework: Helping with laundry, dishes, and keeping your space clean and organized.
  • Newborn care & feeding: Whether nursing, pumping, or using formula, we’ll create a feeding plan and manage all the details.
  • Sleep schedule: I’ll help establish a sleep routine for both baby and parents, so everyone gets the rest they need.
  • Emotional support: Postpartum can be lonely, especially for the mother or primary caregiver. I’ll offer reassurance, so you feel supported and nurtured during this transformative time

Schedule a Meet & Greet

During the Meet & Greet, we will go over:

  • Your birth plan
  • Partners involved
  • Is this your first baby?
  • Family members in the household
  • Areas of support most needed
  • Plans for the postpartum healing period and so much more

Home Visit (a couple months before due date)

During your home visit, I’ll get to know you and your family better, assess your environment, and ensure it’s ready for your baby. We’ll discuss your goals for sleep, feeding, and how to prepare your space from day one. We’ll also talk about home organization, meal preferences, feeding plans, sleep schedules, and newborn care. Additionally, we’ll address partner communication, support expectations, and handling visitors or additional help from friends and family

Preparing for Baby

From the time you decide to work with your postpartum doula until your delivery date, we will communicate regularly to discuss ongoing preparations for the arrival of the new baby. We will address items such as setting up the home and sleep spaces for the baby. This includes considering whether siblings will share a room; if so, we can facilitate this transition now to allow them time to adjust before the baby arrives. We will also schedule or reschedule any necessary appointments before, during, or after the baby's arrival. It can be challenging to remember appointments like vet visits, dentist appointments, and home maintenance tasks when everyone is adjusting to a new family member and the parents are sleep-deprived. This proactive approach allows parents to focus on bonding with their new baby and on their own recovery, knowing that other aspects of their lives are well-managed

Delivery & Coming Home

Once you've delivered, I will be in touch with you to discuss the details of your labor and delivery. Depending on the method of your delivery (vaginal or Cesarean), you may require additional elements of care and assistance. Ideally, I will be able to meet you at your home once you and the baby have been discharged from the hospital. The first 24 hours at home can be particulary stressful for parents. Without some of the "comforts" in a hospital, assistance of nurses and the reassurance of doctors, it can feel overwhelming to be at home with a newborn. Immediately upon arrival, we will focus on ensuring everyone gets rest, gets fed, and is being nurtured to facilitate healing and bonding.
